Citizens and department directors will delve into such fascinating topics as City Budget in a session entitled “Show Me the Money.” Participants will be given a set amount of play money and told to allocate their funds for what they think is most important. Other topics covered will be Police and Fire (“It’s Hot in Topeka”), Water Production (“Refreshingly Topeka”), Planning and Development Services (“Building Blocks”), and challenges with Code Compliance and Housing and Neighborhood Development issues (“It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”). Exciting activities and visits (including the Zoo and Gage Park) are planned. The first of eight weekly sessions is Wednesday, June 11 and the last is July 30. Graduation will be Tuesday, August 5, at the City Council meeting. Go to www.topeka.org and click on “Citizens’ Academy.” Applications can be mailed to: City Communications, 215 SE 7th Street, 2nd Floor, or faxed to 368-3966.
