Kansas basketball made history in the Big Dance, but then KU started their season dancing
Back in October during Late Night in the Phog, the Jayhawks danced for the crowd, having no idea that in seven months they would be National Champs.
First came non-conference play. The Hawks downed teams the likes of Arizona, USC and Georgia Tech, rattling off 15 victories in a row. Kansas was undefeated going into Big 12 conference play.
As league play started, the Hawks started rolling. Down went Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri and Iowa State. At 20 and 0, Kansas had a date with arch-rival K-State in Manhattan, where KU dominated.
Not this year. Kansas State won, but the Hawks never looked back. They would get their revenge a month later.
Through the rest of conference play, they would only drop two more, one at Texas and one head-scratcher to Oklahoma State.
They would win a share of the Big 12 title and then cruised through the league tournament, taking down Nebraska, Texas A&M and Texas to cut down the nets for the first time this year.
Then it was dancing time. The first destination for the Hawks was Omaha. The first on the chopping block was Portland State, then UNLV.
Stop two on the way to a championship, the Motor City, Detroit.
There was no battle with these Wildcats as the Jayhawks soared past Villanova.
Then things got tricky...A battle with Davidson that went to the wire.
Bill Self heads to his first Final Four to San Antonio where he would face Roy. It was no problem for the Hawks.
Then last night, for a title, a player by the name of Mario hits a Miracle to help the University of Kansas collect its first national title in 20 years.
