An injury accident on the Sardou Avenue Bridge sent a Topeka woman to the hospital today.
The investigation has revealed that Brenda Sleep, 45, of Topeka, was in her Dodge Intrepid going east when it crossed the center lane and struck the side of the bridge, utility pole and a westbound car, according to a Topeka Police Department press release.
The collision happened around 12:350 p.m. on the bridge that spans the Kansas River, causing police to shut down the bridge for a brief period. It is now back open.
The driver of the westbound vehicle, a 69-year-old woman, and her 15-year-old passenger were not injured. Sleep was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be okay, Topeka Police Spokeswoman Kristi Pankratz said.
Police are still investigating.
