All was not as it seemed at the Olympic opening ceremonies

Chinese officials are now coming clean with details on the tricks they used during the Olympic opening ceremony.
Despite their efforts to make it appear as a perfect party, some smoke and mirrors were used to help achieve the final effect.
Remember the girl in the red dress singing ode to the motherland?
Turns out she was lip-syncing and she wasn't even the girl who sang the song in the first place.
The music director has admitted that the girl you saw at home was chosen because the real singer wasn't cute enough for TV.
Officials also revealed the sweeping shot of the firework footsteps in the skies over Beijing -- shown to t-v viewers and the stadium audience was a computer-generated effect.
There were actual fireworks, but you didn't see them. Producers were fearful they wouldn't be able to capture the image live on TV.
Other disappointing news...there have been less than full crowds on the Olympic grounds and empty seats at sports venues.
But Olympic officials expect crowds to grow, especially when the track competition starts later this week.
