State health officials hope a new program will reduce diabetes or stop it in the next five years. It's called the Kansas Diabetes Plan, and it was unveiled Friday.
According to the Kansas Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, about 151,000 Kansas adults have been diagnosed with diabetes and another 65,000 likely have the disease and don't know it.
One key to the plan is convincing people to eat better and be more active.
As a part of the plan, the University of Kansas School of Medicine will add 20 positions related to diabetes research during the next 10 years.
