Saving on Gas: Drive 55

We've filled up the tank and we've reset the mileage. Now we're headed to Lawrence.
Remember the 55 mile-per-hour speed limit? Maybe it's time to go back. We're headed to Lawrence. We're driving 55 and we're going to see how much we save.
As we drive the cars keep passing us. We are the slowest car on the highway. We filled up again in Lawrence, did some math and turned around.
The trip to Lawrence at 55 miles an hour took us five extra minutes, but we saved 4 miles per gallon, a total savings of almost $1.50.
Every day this week, Sophia will share new advice on how to stretch your money and the amount of gas you use.
And don't miss Sophia's special report Sunday on 49 news at 10. Sophia gives up her gas guzzler for an entire week. Learn what it took to get around and how much she saved Sunday.

If you want to drive 55, go ahead. I lived through the previous 55 mph speed limit, and it was a nightmare. I have slowed down when driving, but mandating 55 is not the answer. If a person is commuting between Topeka and Lawrence, I guess you have to decide which is more important to you, saving $3.00 a day or saving 10 minutes a day. When traveling to see my family, 55 adds 3 hours to my drive time. No, thank you.
