The Woodlands horse and dog track is closing.
The Woodlands near Kansas City said in a letter to its employees that the track would shut down August 24 for money reasons.
The track has been negotiating with the Kansas Lottery for 800 slot machines, but never reached an agreement.

"We met a number of times for marathon sessions at 6 to 8 hours at a time, trying to work out all the details, trying to make it profitable. But it just boiled down to the numbers weren't there," said Ed Van Petten, Executive Director of the Kansas Lottery.
25 percent of the revenue from those machines was to go back to the track.
It had the chance to get 15-percent more.
But the Woodlands owner says that's still not enough money to stay alive.
