Roberts campaign responds to 49 story
7:14 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Last night, we looked at the claims made in an ad for Pat Roberts' run for the U.S. Senate.
In the ad, he labels opponent Jim Slattery "a Washington lobbyist."
Slattery's people say he did some lobbying, but spent most of his time working as a lawyer.
Tonight, we'd hoped to bring you reaction from the Roberts campaign. They declined our request for an on-camera interview.
But Roberts' Communications Director Molly Haas sent us a written response.
Here's what she had to say:
"If Slattery was only a lawyer and not a lobbyist, he would not have to file OFFICIAL lobbying disclosure forms with the U.S. Congress. Slattery's camp is misleading you. If he was just a lawyer, he would not have to file those official federal forms."
We will continue to ask for an interview from Roberts' campaign.
Watch our story from Monday here.
