Tickets going fast for YWCA's Women's Night Out
2:22 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Women's Night Out, the YWCA is changing things up this year.
The traditional food, drinks and entertainment will remain similar to previous years, but a new feature, a poker room, will bring a new twist to the event and, organizers hope, draw men to the August 5th event.
"Some of the men were like 'well, what about us,'" YWCA Spokeswoman Jamie Kennedy said.
Of course, the poker games will be open to women as well.
2008 Women's Night Out
- When: Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, 5:30 p.m.
- Where: Capitol Plaza Hotel, 1717 SW Topeka Blvd., Topeka
- Cost: $35 - $40
- Age limit: All ages
Kristin Kitko, a singer-songwriter, humorist, and one-woman show, will provide the entertainment for those who do not want to play cards.
"She's kinda like a folk singer, but she's a humorist as well," Kennedy said. "And so she kinda likes to make up songs on the spot that are really funny, and, she's been known to keep crowds roaring with laughter."
Kennedy urges people to purchase advanced tickets to avoid being disappointed the night of the event.
"Last year we sold out of tickets before the event even began," she said.
It's less expensive to buy tickets early: $35 compared to $40 at the door.
Proceeds go to support the programs of YWCA Topeka.
