Local notes from the MLB Draft

The Kansas City Royals took Eric Hosmer, a power-hitting high school first basemen, with the third overall pick of the baseball draft.

Hosmer bats and throws left handed and is considered by most scouts as the best in a deep pool of first base prospects this year.

He hit .470 with 11 home runs and 27 RBIs this year for American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla.

The Royals also had a supplemental pick in the first round, the 36th overall selection.

In othe MLB draft news, many kids dream to go from little league to the major league and one Topeka kid has done just that.

Washburn Rural alum Aaron Crow was the ninth pick overall in today's draft.

Crow was a righty standout pitcher for Mizzou.

He'll now call DC his home after being picked up by the Nationals.

While pitching for the Tigers, crow set a school record with 13 wins, the most in the nation.

Crow also had 43 consecutive scoreless innings.
