Critic suggests "Great Debaters" DVD as springboard for serious discussion

"The Great Debaters" just this week came out on DVD. While it may have not been a box office blockbuster, movie critic Keith Van Sickle says the film is worth checking out on DVD.
Denzel Washington not only played a leading role in "The Great Debaters," he directed the film.
In his second directing effort, he tackles a true story of a small Texas town and how a debate coach inspires his team to take debate, and their lives, seriously, so much so they went on to challenge Harvard in the national championship.
"Denzel Washington just one of the finest actors that we have. He really show quiet a bit of range as a director," Van Sickle said.
The movie tackles racism and college life in the '30s well, he said. Van Sickle calls the movie inspirational, and says it's great for the family and could start a family discussion.
As for the DVD, don't waste your money on the two disc DVD set; one disc will provide everything you need, he said, including a mini-documentary.
