Girls' prep soccer takes the field Tuesday
11:57 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2008
First up is the Seaman Vikings. At 14-2-1, the team has their eyes set on returning to the state title game for the second year in a row.
The Vikes will have home field advantage Tuesday night and they will need it as they take on upstart Saint James Academy.
"It's nice to be able to play at home. You know the field and the conditions, you know the referees usually and how they are going to go," Seaman head coach Louis Di Leonardo said. "It's always hard riding on a bus and getting there and getting your land legs back in. It's just really nice playing at home. We have really good fans that show up and good support from the students."
They will get things going tomorrow at Seaman at about six o'clock....
Now up in 6A, Washburn Rural has a tough road to travel if they want to play for a state title, literally.
Tuesday afternoon they will have to make the long two-and-half-hour drive to take on Maize.
The problem is that Maize has not lost a game this year and are the number one-seeded team in the bracket.
The Lady Blues have had a pretty good year at 14-2-2.
But they know that they will have to play their best if they want to beat the best.
"Got to go to Maize, they're 18-0. They're probably the best team out west but we're excited that we're still alive," Washburn Rural head coach Brian Hensyel said. "At this time of year, you just want to keep playing games and we want to go down there and keep playing well and hopefully come back with a win. They're fast and athletic and we have two common opponents and we both beat them by similar scores and we hope that that's a good omen."
The Blues will kick things off at about six o'clock down in Maize.
