Local ladies have limited success at state

To softball now, staying right here in the Capital City, Washburn Rural taking on Blue Valley in the 6A tourney. In the bottom of the third, Shelby Anderson will go with the pitch to right. She would drive in two with the double, 2-0 Rural. The Lady Blues get a little defensive as Kelsey Lewis makes the nice diving stop and gets it to first to end the ball game. Washburn Rural is on to round two as they take this one, 2-0.

In 5A, Shawnee Heights put the hurt on Great Bend 17-3 in upset fashion. The T-Birds will advance to the state semifinals to take on St. Thomas Aquinas Saturday at ten o'clock.

As for the other half of the bracket, Seaman falls to Bishop Carroll, 2-0. The Vikings end a spectacular season at 17 and 6.

In other state softball action, in 4A, Perry Lecompton goes down to Colby 3-2 in an extra inning battle.

In 3A, Silver Lake's season ends as well as they fall to Marian, 4-1.

And to round out the area in softball, in 2-1A, St. Marys pulls a little bit of an upset as they take down Spearsville, 4-0.
