The state high school baseball tournament kicked off Friday and the Seaman Vikings are on a quest for their second state title in three years.
The Vikes are looking for a little bit of redemption from last year. They lost in the state championship game, but before they start worrying about titles, they would need to get out of round number one. Down in Wichita, Seaman tries to advance to the title game for the third straight year. In the bottom of the first, Marcus Peavler is going to go opposite field with this one and puts it in the gap in right. Zach Carlson would trot in to score, 2-0 Vikings. Later in the game, Robbie Rea will drive one deep and over the left fielder's head for an RBI triple and the Vikes would cruise to the state semifinals, 5-4.
Staying in 5A, Shawnee Heights take on McPherson. In the bottom of the second, McPherson's Joel Piper drives one to deep left field, up and over the add-filled monster. Bullpups went out front early, 1-0. Later in the ball game, Heights show they can hit with some power. Jordan Cooper puts a charge into this, drives it to the wall to drive in a run easily. The T-Birds are winners in this one and advance. They take it 3-2.
In 4A, fourth-seeded Wamego will fall to Garden Plain in a 2-1 pitchers' battle. And staying in Salina, Hayden put a mollywomp on Parsons, 10-0.The Wildcats ten-run-ruled them in six innings.
In 3A, Silver Lake moves on as they pull an upset of the two seed Lakin, 5-2. And the Bears of St. Marys pull the rug out from Cottonwood Falls as they take down the two seed, 9-7.
