Police investigating fatal accident

Topeka Police were called to a car-motorcycle accident at Huntoon and Gage around 7:20 Wednesday morning.

A maroon 1998 Buick Skylark 4 door was traveling north on Gage turning left onto Huntoon to go west when it collided with a blue 2004 Harley Davidson Heritage motorcycle that was southbound on Gage.

The driver of the car, 81 year-old Elaine Creech of Topeka, was treated at a local hospital and released.

The motorcyclist, 66 year-old Melvin Fehrenbacher of Topeka, suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead aftr transport to a local hospital.

Fehrenbacher was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Officials do not believe that alcohol or speed were factors in the accident at this time.

The Topeka Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate. Anyone who may have seen the accident or who has information is asked to contact Accident Reconstruction at 368-9227 or Sgt. Ash Kaboudan at 368-9213.
