Lace up those sneakers, people. The Run for a Reason committee want you to take charity in stride.

They are hoping to raise money to send local students to Washburn’s summer sports camps.

The run will be held the morning of Oct. 11 at Hummer Sports Park. A 5K race starts at 8 a.m.; it’s $30 to run in that. A half-marathon starts at 7:30, with a $20 admission fee.

The 5K is just more than three miles and even if you’re not super athletic, most people can run or walk this course, organizer Debra Ricks said.

If you have a spouse or friend who’s doing one of the above, but you don’t feel comfortable or don’t feel like you can physically run with the pack, a free Fun Run will begin at 10 a.m.

The Run for a Reason event started two years ago as a school-only event. The great turnout prompted the committee to expand it to a community-wide event last year.

The proceeds goes to Topeka Community Foundation, and then underprivileged children are identified. Those kids are then offered sports camp scholarships.

I was cleaning today and found this old email which I sent out to a group of friends & family when I first got back from SA over six years ago... being away from SA for a year and a half now, it was a good feeling to re-remember when I first "fell in love".
