Report: Chalmers, Arthur caught with marijuana at NBA camp

According to reports, Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur were in their hotel room in New York when they were caught with marijuana.

They're in New York for an NBA Rookie Transition Program, a four-day seminar to help rookies transition into the league.

Chalmers, also known as "Super Mario", was deemed a hero after he made the game-tying three-pointer in regulation to send the national championship game into overtime.

The guard left KU early for the NBA, and in June, was drafted in the second round by the Miami Heat.

His former teammate Darrell Arthur also left KU early and was the 27th pick of the draft.

He eventually ended up with the Memphis Grizzlies.

At KU, both averaged 12.8 points per game.

Sports fans we spoke with hadn't heard the news until we told them.

“I hate to hear that,” said Kenny Anderson, KU fan. “They both had promising careers. I think that's terrible for real.”

“They're role models for little boys, my son and you worry about that,” said Erin Bess-Pennington, KU fan.

“It's shocking, sad, but at the same time what are you going to do?’” said Heather Kuhn, KU fan. “They have to have some rules and obviously they had to do that, so that's sad.”

“Well I think they should be sent home from camp,” said Gerald Bays, KSU fan. “They're professional now and they need to maintain a professional behavior.”

A source tells ESPN that each player was fined $20,000 and will start the season on the suspended list.

The NBA is investigating, along with the Heat and Chalmers' agent.

According to policy, both Chalmers and Arthur will have to attend the transition program again.
